What the PTA covers

Programs your membership supports

From celebrating student creativity to keeping our campus prepared, here is what the Soleado PTA runs each year.

Ribbon Weeks

Themed awareness weeks, such as Red Ribbon and Yellow Ribbon Week, with spirit days and activities that bring the whole campus together.

Capitol Convoy

Working with the Palos Verdes Peninsula Council of PTAs, families and students head to Sacramento to meet lawmakers and speak up for public education.

Reflections

The National PTA arts program: students create original art, photography, music, writing and film around a yearly theme, and Soleado celebrates every entry.

Teacher support

Appreciation lunches, treats and thank-yous that help Soleado teachers and staff feel valued all year.

Emergency preparedness

Helping our campus and families get ready for emergencies, with supplies, information and support for the school safety plan.

Booster Club

What your donations & fundraising cover

The Booster Club raises money for the extras that go beyond what district funding covers. Every gift and every fundraiser goes directly to Soleado students and teachers.

Funding that gets Soleado classes out of the building and into the world.

Performing arts

Performing arts programs that give every grade a chance to sing, play and perform.

Programs run by students

Student-led programs: Battle of the Books (BOB), SNN, Student Council and Green Team.

Art at Your Fingertips

The art program that brings hands-on art lessons into Soleado classrooms.

Garden program

Funding for the Soleado school garden and the garden program.

Scholarships

Scholarship support funded by Booster Club donations and fundraisers.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between the PTA and the Booster Club?+

The two groups share a campus and a mission, but each has a different core job. The PTA is about people and community: it runs programs and events, advocates for students, and supports teachers, as a chartered unit of California State PTA and National PTA. The Booster Club is about funding: it raises money through donations and fundraisers to pay for extras like classroom grants, field trips, performing arts, student programs, Art at Your Fingertips, the garden program, field and facility improvements and maintenance, scholarships, the International Fair and support for PEF. You're welcome to support one or both.

Do I have to volunteer if I join?+

Not at all. Membership and volunteering are separate — plenty of members simply pay dues to support the mission. Volunteering is always welcome, never required.

Is my gift tax-deductible?+

Both organizations are recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofits, so gifts are generally tax-deductible. You'll receive a receipt for your records — check with your tax advisor for your specific situation.

How do I get event updates?+
